The IDEAL Healthcare Curriculum

Faculty: "Mentored Activities" - The Team IDEAL Board has approved the concept of each faculty member offering a Team IDEAL activity that allows him/her the opportunity to mentor an interdisciplinary group of students in his/her academic passion. There are examples of Mentored Activities here. If you need assistance developing a mentored activity, please contact Rodger Marion or attend the Quest. Another example of a mentored activity you can create is described below as Mentor Option One.

Mentor Option One - This link takes you to a new option for instructors to become mentors in Team IDEAL.

First Year Students:  The presentation made at orientation is on-line. It will take some time to load, and once loaded it may not be on the first picture. Click the Rewind button (two left facing arrows) to be sure you start at the beginning. Otherwise the sound will be out of phase with the pictures.

Your first task in Team IDEAL is to develop a plan of the activities you want to do to complete the course requirements for the first year. You will need a total of 70 stars. You will develop your plan by adding "planned activities" to your Activities Log which will be represented by silver stars ().

1) To go to your Activities Log, click on the "Log In" link in the menu. It is best to have an approved plan before doing activities. You need to include 5 Featured Events in your plan.

2) Once you have entered your plan on-line, meet with your departmental advisor so he/she can approve your plan. Your plan is flexible and may change during the year. You will have the option of adding or deleting activities at any time.

3) After your on-line plan is approved, you can begin doing your activities. When you have completed the requirements of an activity, you can return to the Activities Log and change your silver stars to yellow "pending approval" stars () by clicking on the "Thumbs Up" icon (). If you do an activity that is not part of your plan, you can enter it directly as "pending approval."

4) Document the activity and email the Team IDEAL coordinator that you have stars needing to be approved. Once stars have been approved by the sponsor of the activity (Mentor) or the Team IDEAL staff, they turn to red stars ().

Second Year Students: Finish up IDEAL activities.  Be sure you have 70 approved stars with at least five of your activities are Featured Events

Begin work on your Capstone Project.  It is worth 50 stars and is mandatory for completion of the course. If you wish, you may begin your Capstone Project during the first year after you have earned 50 stars and participated in three Featured Events. The stars earned from the Capstone Project are not used to satisfy the "five stars in each competency" requirement.
