Team IDEAL Professional Career Development Activities

As you move through your curriculum, you will consider your options for a professional position. You may already have a job in a health career, but your UTMB education will prepare you for new and more rewarding roles. The IDEAL activities will give you evidence of development in competencies that graduates from other universities may not have.  You will become more competitive in the job market. To help you to "market" these skills to potential employers there is a sequence of activities.

  1. How to Prepare a Killer Resume. 5 stars
  2. Resume Portfolio Preparation. 15 stars
  3. BONUS - If you put your portfolio information into the electronic portfolio you will earn 5 extra stars. You can view a sample e-folio.
These activities are optional and may be done at any time in your program.  Contact Dorothy Pearrow at hcavazos@utmb.edu if you want to do any of these activities.

Portfolio Preparation

The portfolio process has two stages:
  1. Preparation of an MS Word document that contains the elements listed below.  This document will be submitted to your instructor and, if complete, will meet the portfolio requirement of the activity.
  2. Preparation of the final version of your portfolio. When you have completed stage 1, you will have two options for preparing your final portfolio. You may do either or both of these options.
    • A paper-based portfolio - You can pick up from the Team IDEAL Office a Portfolio Preparation Kit. This will be an elegant binder and will contain dividers to hold printed versions of the your MS Word files and other information you select for your portfolio.
    • An on-line portfolio - You can create an on-line eportfolio using a wizard. Access to the wizard can be obtained from the Team IDEAL Office.
